Sexual Consent + Dementia Interview with Dr. Nathalie Huitema

Description
Join us on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 1-2 pm Eastern Time. Intimacy and sex can be very challenging subjects for guardians. There are so many personal feelings and stigmas attached to the topic, it can be difficult for even a small group of adults to agree about how others should behave. When clients show symptoms of dementia, the stakes for intimate activity get even higher.

In this 1-hour webinar, The Center is honored to conduct an interactive conversation with Dr. Nathalie Huitema, author of “Navigating Intimacy: Evolving Perspectives on Consent and Connection in the Lives of Older Adults with Dementia.”

Participants will learn:
1. The importance of physical contact and the impact of taking away someone’s intimate activities.
2. The dilemma surrounding consent when an adult has dementia.
3. How to use a new framework to understand and assess consent.

Please note that no legal advice is provided. For answers to legal questions, we recommend consulting an attorney. This event is offered free of charge. Registration is required.

1 CEU from Center for Guardianship Certification will be awarded. Please check with your state to determine if this CEU meets your needs.
