The Center for Guardianship Excellence is required to report this form to the state within 30 days of the course. This webinar is a 1-hour presentation by sociologist, Dr. Joanne Tompkins, who led the research. The Center will offer a review of a research article we had published, sharing the findings of a national study on the characteristics that make someone less likely to choose a health care proxy. Our study found that socioeconomic status, social life, and health status impact the likelihood. We will discuss how healthcare workers, social workers, and guardians can help identify people who are at risk for not choosing a healthcare proxy and normalize conversations about end-of-life care preferences between healthcare professionals, patients, and families.
