Balancing Autonomy & Safety: What Every Guardian Should Know

Description
Tuesday, November 10, 2026. 1-2 PM Eastern Time. "Balancing Autonomy & Safety: What Every Guardian Should Know." Guardians are expected to weigh risks and benefits, actions and consequences, and then make decisions that create the best possible outcomes for each client. If only it were that simple. Least restrictive alternatives are supposed to be prioritized even when a client's history suggests the person may be vulnerable to exploitation physically, emotionally or financially. Risk assessments may lead to a decision that reduces a person's quality of life, and that seems unfair and unsustainable. How can a guardian make good, safe, professional decisions while preserving freedoms a client wants and needs to be happy? Erica Reichert, Nationally Certified Guardian will share some best practices for assessing situations, making thoughtful and thorough decisions, then following through to provide oversight as time goes by.

The course is offered free of charge. Registration is required. 1 CEU from Center for Guardianship Certification will be awarded.
